The Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra (Portugal) is organizing the 1st International Forum on LGBTQI+ Ageing in Southern Europe, which will take place in Coimbra between 30. 9. and 1. 10. 2024. The forum is a product of the TRACE project (Tracing Queer Citizenship over Time: Ageing, ageism and age-related LGBTI+ politics in Europe), which aims to make an important contribution to the ongoing debate on ageing by focusing on a significant area that has been overlooked due to a combination of factors, including ageism and LGBTQI+ based discrimination. The focus on Southern European contexts is an entry point into broader discussions about former totalitarian regimes and the transition to democracy, as well as wider socio-political and cultural processes that impact on the lived experiences of older LGBTQI+ people.
With this in mind, we invite you to join us and welcome proposals from Southern Europe and beyond!
